If you’re staying with us in late June, you’re perfectly placed to experience one of Cornwall’s most spectacular celebrations — Golowan.
Held annually in nearby Penzance, Golowan is a vibrant 10-day festival that builds to an unforgettable street celebration on the final weekend in June. Thousands of people gather as the town bursts into life with giant wicker figures parading through the streets, colourful processions, street theatre, live performances and music on every corner.
Expect dancing, costumes, fire, drums and an electric atmosphere that carries on into the evening with the Golowan Live Music and DJ Marquee. It’s joyful, creative and completely unique — a true celebration of community spirit.
Golowan is a 35-year revival of the ancient Feast of St John and the midsummer solstice, and it has grown into one of the biggest street festivals in the South of England. What makes it so special is that it’s delivered by the whole community — artists, performers, volunteers and local residents all coming together to create something magical.
It’s the biggest event in the calendar for this southwest Cornish town and well worth the short journey from St Ives. If you’re visiting during 19–28 June 2026, we highly recommend planning an evening (or two!) to soak up the atmosphere.
