May Day in St Ives

4th May 2026

May Day in St Ives is a time when locals and visitors gather to wave goodbye to winter and welcome in spring.

The festivities begin with the lively tradition of choosing the May Queen and King at the pee whip. As the celebrations unfold, horn blowers announce the arrival of spring and May sticks whack.  A colourful parade winds its way through the town to the harbour, where you can experience traditional Cornish music and dancing.
